Senior Software Engineer
Finastra
Who are we?
At Finastra, we’re a global leader in financial services software, dedicated to expanding access to financial services and shaping what’s next for the industry. Our technology powers mission‑critical solutions across Lending, Payments and Universal Banking, supporting over 7,000 customers, including 80% of the world’s top 50 banks, in more than 110 countries.
Responsibilities
Architecture & Design
- Translate product requirements into clean service designs (DDD, clean architecture, event‑driven patterns).
- Define service contracts, versioning strategy, and backward‑compatible change management.
- Drive design reviews and make pragmatic trade‑offs (latency vs. throughput, storage vs. compute, sync vs. async).
Build & Delivery
- Develop high‑quality Java services using Spring Boot/Spring Cloud and RESTful APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger).
- Ensure robust data models and schema evolution for PostgreSQL/Oracle.
- Champion automated testing across levels (unit, integration, contract, end‑to‑end).
Quality, Security & Reliability
- Enforce code quality standards (static analysis, code review discipline, secure coding).
- Implement OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect, Spring Security, secret management, and supply‑chain hygiene.
- Define SLOs, implement observability (logs/metrics/traces), and lead incident response & RCA with clear follow‑ups.
Performance & Scale
- Profile and tune JVM/GC, optimize SQL and caching layers, and validate at scale with load/perf tests.
- Eliminate hotspots and remove bottlenecks through measurement, not intuition.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as feature/module owner for one or more services from design to production readiness.
- Mentor engineers via pairing, structured reviews, tech talks, and clear playbooks.
- Communicate scope, risks, dependencies, and timelines crisply; unblock cross‑team work.
Required Skills (Must‑Have)
Core Engineering
- Java , Spring Boot, Spring Data/JPA (Hibernate), Spring Cloud (config, discovery, resilience).
- Microservices architecture and inter‑service communication patterns.
- REST API design & documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger).
Data & Messaging

- Kafka or IBM MQ for event streaming/asynchronous processing.
Build & CI/CD
- Maven/Gradle, Git, and pipelines (Jenkins/GitHub Actions/GitLab CI/Azure DevOps).
- Trunk‑based development, code reviews, artifacted builds, and quality gates.
Containers & Runtime
- Docker, working knowledge of Kubernetes (deployments, services, config/secret management).
Testing & Observability
- JUnit 5, Mockito, Testcontainers, contract testing fundamentals.
- SonarQube (or equivalent), OWASP basics; logs/metrics/traces (e.g., ELK/Splunk, OpenTelemetry).
Security & Compliance

Professional Skills
- Ownership mindset, bias for action, and clear written/verbal communication.
- Comfortable leading technical decisions, guiding peers, and collaborating in Agile teams.
Preferred (Nice‑to‑Have)
- Finastra Global PAYplus (GPP) knowledge (Classic/SP): payment‑hub routing/orchestration, API & file integrations; familiarity with Authenticated Collections (DebiCheck) flows (mandate initiation/authentication TT1/TT2/TT3, early‑window presentment).
- Reactive programming (Project Reactor, Spring WebFlux).
- API Gateways (Kong, Apigee, Spring Cloud Gateway) with rate‑limiting and auth.
- Consumer‑driven contract testing (Pact) and schema governance.
- Helm/Infrastructure‑as‑Code in collaboration with DevOps.
- Payments/financial‑services domain; event sourcing, gRPC, or GraphQL; strong DDD patterns.
- Basic front‑end familiarity (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) for API troubleshooting.
