Model N is seeking an experienced and innovative senior technical consultant to join our Global Services team. The right candidate must be exceptionally strong and experienced as a technical consultant. As a key member of the technical team, you will be responsible for software development and customization with operational oversight and the ability to respond appropriately to both project and operational issues to our global clients’ needs. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including delivery, product, engineering, and support — to ensure solutions align with business goals and technical standards. As a member of the Life Sciences Application Services, the candidate will lead a small group of consultants to customize, implement, and deploy Model N BI applications. In addition to proven expertise in the implementation of enterprise-class BI software packages (based on BI tools like IBM Cognos & SQL), the successful candidate must possess strong customer focus and be able to take ownership implementation and operation of multiple projects or work streams simultaneously.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with global clients and internal stakeholders to gather technical requirements.
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex Oracle SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support reporting and analysis.
- Translate functional and business requirements into technical specifications and Cognos/SQL deliverables
- Design, develop, and maintain Cognos reports
- Work with delivery teams to ensure the successful implementation and transition of solutions.
- Full BI software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations support.
- Translate customer requirements into BI software design, development, plan, and implementation. Propose system design/enhancements based on customer problems and product requirements. Communicate with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
- Ensure system changes are tested properly.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze data flows and improve reporting efficiency.
- This is an individual contributor role, with hands-on technical delivery.
Job Qualification
- 5+ years’ experience in BI software development & delivery of enterprise software implementations using IBM Cognos, with at least 3 years of experience in a BI developer role.
- Advanced knowledge in Data Analytics and Business Intelligence concepts.
- Experience in relational database programming, particularly Oracle and advanced-level SQL and PL/SQL.
- Experience with logical database design and SQL query optimization techniques is desirable.
- Experience in Cognos Analytics development, Server Configuration and Administration, Packaging and Deployment, Model generation, Report Authoring, and the Cognos Framework Manager (Added Advantage).
- Experience with analytics tools such as Looker is highly desirable, including LookML development
- Proven ability in performance tuning: optimizing SQL queries and other tuning techniques
- Experience in all aspects of BI software development life cycle; emphasis on applying formal methodologies and tools.
- Demonstrated experience using generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Gemini) to improve productivity, decision‑making, or problem solving in a professional or personal context.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team to deliver project milestones on schedule
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline
